What if God were dead?

What if God were dead? What if we stumbled across His body or found His tombstone so to speak. What if we found real proof, real evidence that there is no God? I’m not talking about faith I am asking what if we found out that evolution were absolutely true, or reincarnation is a reality, or aliens really planted human life on earth. I am not saying I believe this, but it is an interesting question. What would we as Christians do? Would we continue on our way like nothing happened? Would we mourn our fake messiah? Pick up a new belief or religion? The reason I ask is to make you think about everyone else, the ones that don’t believe in “our God”.  “Them” in the “Us verses Them” mentality. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes and see what you would believe if Christ was not God. Would you still believe in Christ if you were raised in the Middle East or in Japan or Africa? If you were raised as a Hindu, Jew, or Buddhist would you still be a Christian today?  It is an interesting thought because some people we encounter believe what we believe is a lie. We rarely put ourselves in their shoes, or try on their mindset. If we heard ourselves sometimes I think we would think we were crazy too. God becoming a man? Dying for peoples sins? Why would God in all His power go through that? Why let sin and death reign? If God really is all powerful why does evil run rampant?  If we could hear us from a sinner’s perspective we might think we were crazy. Why Christ as opposed to Buddha, Mohammed, Zoroaster or any other religious figure? All of their religions sound crazy to us, but why don’t we realize our beliefs might sound just as crazy to them? We automatically write them off because “they believe a lie”. Why would anyone listen to us when we would NEVER listen to them? I am not saying we should drop our beliefs and buy into whatever they believe, but when I imagine two people of two different religions talking to one another I see two people trying to talk to one another with their hands over both ears. Would you listen to someone who told you that you were doing it all wrong? That everything you believed and held most dear was a lie? That you are stupid for believing something like that? Would you get defensive? Would you turn off your ears? What if Buddhists thought they had the right religion and told you Christ was just a teacher? That He was a good man, but not God, not your savior and didn’t hear you when you prayed and most certainly wouldn’t be there to welcome you to heaven when you died. I’ve said all that because I hope the next time you talk to someone about Christ and you can’t understand why they wouldn’t want what you have, look at yourself and ask are you listening to them like Christ would? Understand their skepticism as your own. Look at your unbelief’s toward their system of beliefs and realize they might feel the same way about you and your system. People were drawn to Christ. They didn’t feel rejected or looked down upon. Christ accepted them and listened and related to people. So please examine yourself. When you talk to others do you really listen, or are you just waiting for your turn to speak?
