Humanity

What would happen if we accidentally showed the world our human side? What if they saw our humanity? Heavens! This must not be. They need to see our perfection. They need to see how they MUST match up to our standard of perfection. The standard we ourselves can’t actually reach. They must perceive us as heavenly and totally separated from everything worldly until we are so separated we are ineffective. How well would it have worked if Christ came to earth as 100% God and 0% man? No humanity at all. No human characteristics or needs or weaknesses. What if they saw the humanity in us that Christ had? Heavens, no! We would be flesh and blood. We would be imperfect. We must be perfect; or they will never be like US…

  1. If we showed our human side that would mean revealing our fears, uncertainties, and yes, even our doubts. We would be vulnerable. They might think that a weak, human Christian equates to a weak God. Then again, over time they might see God do a miracle in us. They might think there’s something to this God after all.
    Good post.

  2. “They might think that a weak, human Christian equates to a weak God.”
True but i think we’ve gone too far the other way and made God into a hateful judgmental bastard. We are often seen as “above” others looking down our nose at them. We sometimes don’t show a kind loving humanitarian but a disconnected pompous demigod. Maybe I’m just too cynical…
    Thanks for the comment!

  3. “We are often seen as “above” others looking down our nose at them.” I agree, and this is really sad that we have historically presented Christianity this way. I think we’re afraid of appearing weak, because we think unbelievers will judge our weakness. But instead it gives them a chance to see God’s strength, not human strength. And in that I mean how God loves us enough to heal our brokenness and strengthen our weaknesses. We need to let them see the process.
